PREPARING YOUR CAR FOR RIDESHARING

Rideshare companies like Uber and Lyft have surged in popularity over the last decade and with that has come a bigger demand for drivers. Driving for a company like this can seem like an attractive offer, as it gives you the ability to set your schedule and be your own boss, meet new people, and make some extra money on the side. The process is mostly straightforward. After completing the application and passing your vehicle inspection, you’ll be well on your way to becoming a rideshare driver.

Passing inspection and getting the job doesn’t mean you’ll be financially successful with the job, though. Passengers desire and expect certain things from both their driver and driver’s car. While drivers should be pleasant and professional, their cars should be clean, tidy, and free of bad smells. If you’re looking for more in-depth tips for accomplishing this last task, check out our earlier article. Let’s go over some more tips so you can make the most out of your rideshare driving experience.

CLEAN YOUR CAR

No one wants to get into an Uber or Lyft with a stranger whose car is unduly dirty or untidy. Think of the exterior of your car as a first impression; the first gauge by which a client judges you. Don’t stress over every little smudge and imperfection but do know that an undue amount of grit or dirt can turn passengers away. And remember, sometimes passengers will leave poor reviews and tip less if your car is dirty. It’s simple, keep things clean and you won’t run into any trouble. If you feel like you’re in need of a proper wash and have the extra money for it, it absolutely pays to get your car professionally detailed. Doing it on your own is possible too but may entail some combination of hand washing, applying vynil conditioning, and window cleaning.

Cleaning your interior may prove to be a little easier. Start by assembling your tools like a vacuum cleaner, cleaning product assortment, and some rags or cloths, as well as a scrubbing brush. Vacuum everything from seats, carpets, and floors (our Fortem vacuum cleaner works great for that!). Hard surfaces made of plastic or composite can be cleaned with a wet rag, while leather will require special treatment. Protectant should be used on all surfaces, although make sure to use the correct protectant for the material you’re applying it to. Don’t forget to clean windows and mirrors too.

DASHCAM

Buying a dashcam may just become one of the best buying decisions you make. In the unlikely but ever-present chance you get into an accident while on the road, a dash cam can save you time and money by avoiding drawn-out legal proceedings. Dashcams can either continuously record footage or only begin recording when an impact triggers special sensors. Either way, these cameras provide high definition footage of events exactly as they transpired. They can even help you in case of any incidents with unruly passengers.

Dashcams recording the interior of your vehicle can catch any potential assaults or attacks upon you by passengers without the extra legal headache of determining what exactly happened in the altercation. In short, dashcams are a great way to protect you from other drivers and even from the rare passenger just looking to start some trouble. The Rexing V1 is a great choice for those looking for a good dashcam for general use. In contrast, a camera like the Apeman recorder is great for those on a tighter budget.

IT’S ALL IN THE DETAILS

Just like most passengers respect a clean and tidy car, they’ll also be happy to see certain inexpensive amenities that can make their ride just a little bit better. Packing an auxiliary cable, extra phone chargers, water bottles, and, let’s face it, maybe even a barf bag can be appreciated. Also consider bringing gum or mints, paper towels, and spare change. An air freshener can be a great quick way to freshen up your interior, just make sure to not use it to cover a bad smell as it won’t be able to do so.

Be safe, professional, and follow our other tips for success and you’ll be the best rideshare driver around in no time!
